Programme Overview
NUS Economics is one of the strongest economics programmes in Asia, known for its rigorous analytical training. The curriculum emphasises critical thinking, data analysis, and quantitative methods — you will learn to model real-world problems using economic theory and statistical tools. What sets this apart from business degrees is the depth: you are not just learning how markets work, you are learning *why* they work (or fail). The department offers three specialisations — Quantitative Economics, Monetary and Financial Economics, and Applied and Policy Economics — letting you tailor your studies toward research, finance, or public policy. If you enjoy mathematics and want to understand how economies function at a fundamental level, this is a stronger foundation than a BBA. It pairs exceptionally well with a second major in Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science and Analytics.
