Programme Overview
NUS Environmental Engineering (officially called Environmental and Sustainability Engineering) applies engineering principles to protect and improve the environment. The curriculum covers air quality, water treatment, waste management, environmental monitoring, and sustainable systems design. Unlike the BES programme which takes a social science and policy approach to environmental issues, this programme is firmly grounded in engineering — you learn to design treatment plants, model pollution dispersion, and develop clean technologies. Singapore’s water security challenges (NEWater, desalination) and waste management innovations make this programme especially relevant. Graduates work in water utilities, environmental consultancies, government agencies (PUB, NEA), and clean technology firms.
