Programme Overview
Chemical engineers design processes and equipment for large-scale conversion of raw materials into useful products — safely, sustainably and economically. At NUS, ranked consistently among the world’s top 10 for Chemical Engineering by QS, you’ll learn about thermodynamics, chemical reactions, fluid dynamics, separation processes and process design. The scope is broader than you might think: chemical engineers work in pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, clean energy, biotechnology and food production, not just petrochemicals. You can specialise in areas like Biopharmaceutical Engineering, Industry 4.0 or Safety and Sustainability. This is distinct from Chemistry in its emphasis on practical applications for commercial production. Transforms raw materials into valuable products at industrial scale. Singapore's Jurong Island petrochemical complex and pharmaceutical manufacturing sector provide excellent career opportunities. Combines chemistry, physics, and process engineering.
