The elements of fiction are the building blocks through which an author presents and expresses the significance of a work. This summer course explores these key elements and how they work together to craft a compelling piece of fiction. Each lesson delves deeply into one element and its various components. Through diverse readings, students will learn to identify the main elements of fiction and consider why the author chose to present them the way they did. Guided questions include: What are the main elements of fiction? What are some additional ones? Are they universal? Do all stories focus on all elements equally, and which genres emphasize which? Can we consider all elements of fiction equal?
