This summer course is taught by Oak Education's core instructor Teressa, offered in two tracks: Foundation (G6-G7) and Advanced (G8-G9). Teressa holds dual master's degrees in English Education from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Wuhan University, with TEM-8 certification and international teaching qualifications, bringing over 15 years of university-level teaching experience. Reading quality English media such as The New York Times and The Economist provides significant hidden benefits for IBDP students, particularly in English, TOK, EE, and overall academic competence. This course aims to strengthen students' reading foundations and prepare them for IBDP. Reading The New York Times focuses on narrative writing (storytelling and character), while reading The Economist develops analytical writing (analysis and argumentation), building the most essential IBDP skills: critical thinking and global awareness. The Foundation track features carefully selected global topics from The New York Times and The Guardian, helping students transition smoothly from narrative reading to academic informational reading. The Advanced track tackles in-depth long-form articles from The Economist and The New York Times, comprehensively developing complex sentence analysis, logical reasoning, and critical reading skills to build a solid foundation for upper-level academic writing.
